First Man. Have you seen it? This film is based on the book First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong by James R. Hansen. This movie starts out in 1961 and follows through to the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins were the Apollo 11 crew, just in case you didn’t know. 🙂 One thing that I found fascinating about this film is that it brought firmly into my mind how alone Michael Collins had to have felt. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon; together. Michael Collins stayed alone – completely alone in space – for 21 hours and 31 minutes inside the command module in lunar orbit. Can you imagine?

Claire Foy is absolutely outstanding as usual. The whole cast is amazing. The story is excruciatingly sad, heart pounding, and gripping. I learned a lot of things that I had no clue about watching this film, and I’m glad I spent the time to watch it. It also brought home the fact that I am NOT the type of person who longs to explore space. At least with the capabilities that we have at present. Now if we can travel the way Jean Luc Picard did…..I might consider it. But probably not.
Go watch it tonight and tell me what you think!
