Batman, the helper.

Today, one of my many to do list goals is to take another load of stuff to our local Salvation Army. I was making good headway in this endeavor until my helper came along.

A sneak attack is always his MO when he is feeling spunky.

Have you ever seen eyebrows like this on a cat?

Seriously, he has amazing eyebrows, doesn’t he?

On another note, yesterday when I took Liv to the bus stop we saw this in the sky.

There were literally at least 50 of these birds crossing our neighborhood. I think they were all vultures. Creepy. Very, very creepy.

Koshka, the great scaredy cat.

Yep, that’s him, showing his disdain for the whole world.

Koshka is the newest edition to our family. He only weighed in at 1.5 pounds when we adopted him from the shelter two years ago. He was 4 weeks old.

He thinks that the entire world revolves around him. That’s my daughters fault. He also thinks that she is his mama.

See the scratches on her arm. Yeah, should have been an indicator!

He absolutely cannot stand it if you shut a door against him. He thinks that he owns the house too. He will sit outside the door and meow at the top of his lungs. And if that doesn’t work, he hooks his paw under the door and rattles it until whoever is inside cannot stand it anymore let’s him in. Which was the point in his mind. He owns the house after all.

But out of the three cats that we have he is the biggest scaredy cat of them all. He is also the biggest bully. Everything is out to get him, he thinks. Probably because he lays in wait and tries to kill whoever walks by, be it human or not.

So last week, I went into the bathroom and left the door open for him because he was in the bedroom and I didn’t want to deal with his drama. Please don’t tell me I’m the only person in the world who does this.

He watched me go into the bathroom. He KNEW I was in there.

He then proceeds to stalk into his bathroom. Halfway across the room he stops and becomes a statue. I watched him for about 15 seconds and then I said, Koshka.

Oh dear Lord. He jumped like I had stabbed him with a butcher knife. Turned a flip and almost slammed into the door behind him trying to escape the axe murderer that I couldn’t see. It looked something like this:

Oh Koshka. You do provide endless hours of entertainment. Even though your razor sharp claws have torn my feet to shreds at night because they must be killed. We love you anyway.

Snow in April.

I am Batman.

Oh Batman. Our lives haven’t been the same since we first saw you.

Let me set the stage for you. Our family has always had a cat. A. Cat.

Our first cat in our small family was Fozzie. We had her for 11 years before she suddenly died.

It took my small kids almost a year to get over her death. We had had Fozzie longer than our kids at that time. 😉

My husband in his wisdom when they started clamoring for another kitty said “We aren’t getting another cat unless it’s a calico”. Thinking he was smart, because we didn’t know anyone with a calico and hadn’t seen any for free! When we were moving to our new town almost eight years ago, on our last trip to the local dump, low and behold here sits a few months old calico kitten. Not even a week after making his declaration. My husband is learning to be more specific, Lord.

Cali (yes we are very original) LOVES my son. She loves everybody in our family, but she LOVES my son. And my daughter has pined for years now for her own love.

She finally wore her father down and off to the shelter we go to try and find her perfect gray kitten that she knows will complete her life. And love HER best. Here is what we got instead.

He is definitely not gray. But he does love her best. Koshka, which is cat in Russian. (again with the originality). (No – we are not Russian, my kids just like languages.) My daughters baby who only weighed 1.5 pounds when we adopted him. We’ll tell his story another day.

So while we are at the shelter picking out the love of her life, we see this big boy.

Batman. The shelter didn’t really know anything about him. He had a brother who died. Poor batman, he’s had a hard life so far. Both of his ears are mangled. I thought he was deaf at first, but he can definitely hear when you put food in his bowl.

He is such a sweetheart. If you need a lovable furry friend, I highly recommend that you schedule a trip to your local animal shelter. Just be prepared to come home with more than one!

Because Batman has chosen my husband as his very favorite human, my daughter says that I need my very own cat, too. Hubby says no. way.

Besides, we also have two dogs….*smile*
